Creature Collage

One of the things that I love about being an artist and creating art is seeing a work evolve. In this project "Creature Collage" does just that. I moved the students from one media to another allowing their idea to grow and change with each revision. The final portion of the project moves the student on to the computer creating a web page of their art work.

To begin I had the students as a class create a creature using the product Zolotopia. Once the creature was created the class then drew the resulting sculpture. This was saved for future reference.

The next part of the students’ artistic journey was to create texture and pattern pages. These pages were then cut into various shapes. Then students traded shapes till they had a random collection of shapes and colors.

These shapes were then glued down on paper to create their own “Creature Collage”. We then photographed the art work.

After the work was photographed I uploaded the files to a PBWiki page for that class.

Each student was given a page in their class wiki and asked to 1) insert their image on the page and then 2) write a short story about their creature.

To help with this process I gave each student a worksheet. The worksheet allowed the students to glue a small thumbnail print or their creature, decide on 5 descriptive works about their creature and then begin writing a short story about their art work.

In windows XP there is a feature that allows you to print from a file folder of images. start by opening the file on your computer where the student artwork is stored. then select an image but not open it. go to the file menu and select print.

then follow the directions for the photo Printing Wizard.

In the Photo Wizard you can chose the size and number of prints.

Have the students glue this onto their Creature Feature page .

Then I taught about 5 students how to work on their wiki and they in turn taught the other students.
